Begin with the reference number, not just the model name. Two watches from the same family can have different case sizes, materials, movements and bracelets. Save the listing and ask which details describe this particular example. Establish a comfortable budget for the purchase and any work or adjustments you may want afterward.
Read the photographs as a set
Look at the dial, case sides, bezel, bracelet, clasp and case back. Ask for additional close-ups if an important area is missing. Photos should help you assess wear and configuration; they cannot establish authenticity or mechanical condition on their own. Separate what you can see from what still needs confirmation.
Make the paperwork specific
Ask which box, cards, booklets, links and service documents accompany the piece. A complete set is not a universal checklist, and a card does not replace inspection. Before paying, confirm the final amount, availability, delivery or viewing arrangements, and the written return and warranty terms that apply to your purchase.
Put your shortlist to work
